(Top image: photo of long boots)

This is the "Yuya Hasegawa's Ardent Shoeshine Dojo" series. In the 16th installment of this series, we will talk about shoeshine for women, a change from the usual atmosphere. Yuya Hasegawa talks passionately about the maintenance of "long boots," shoes that are very popular during this season.

What? Why don't I just polish them as usual? However, due to the characteristics of long boots, it is necessary to change the polishing method a little.

Basically, we would like you to follow the process we have just described, but we would like to talk about a special part of how to polish long boots and general maintenance including how to store them.

The first is to use a colorless cream for the tube part.
The bending part around the ankle should be carefully put cream.
You should be careful how to store it.

No.1.

First of all, when polishing long boots, apply colorless cream to the tube part. When wearing long boots, the tube part is usually placed on the inside of a skirt or other clothing, so if colored cream is used, the color will transfer to the clothing.

However, if there is color fading on the tube, use a colored cream. Instead, wipe thoroughly to prevent color transfer to the clothing.

The next step is to use a color cream around the ankles.

The area around the ankles and at the bottom of the tube is where most of the creases appear. When the leather dries and hardens in this area, the surface will crack. Long boots are often used for a long time over several years because the trend in women's shoes does not change much, and we often see long boots with cracks around the ankles.

Therefore, this frequently bent area should be moisturized by applying a nourishing emulsifying cream. This is the area where the creases occur, so a "colored" cream should be applied. Use "colored" creams because colorless creams tend to crystallize white in cold temperatures, especially in wrinkled areas.

The third item

The time to wear long boots is from November to March. That means they are stored from April to October. They are stored for more than half a year, but because of the high humidity during that period, there is a very high risk of mold growth if they are not stored properly, so be careful.

So how should you store them?

First, polish the entire shoe once before putting it away. If they are dirty, mold can easily take advantage of the dirt as a nourishment, so first thoroughly clean the entire surface and apply cream. A little bit of cream is fine. After that, dry them in the shade on a sunny day before putting them away.

Many people store their long boots in a box. Since moisture tends to accumulate in shoeboxes, mold can grow inside them, so you should put in a special desiccant. You can buy one at a home improvement store or online, and it is safe to put one in each box.

In addition, you can wrap the boxes in Brift H's popular "happy yellow turmeric cloth" and put them away. The natural anti-mold and anti-bacterial properties of turmeric will prevent mold from growing on your shoes.

Then wait for the coming fall and winter season. When you start wearing them again, it is a good idea to give them a full course of shoe polish once to wake them up from their six-month sleep. If you spend each year in this way, you will surely have boots that will last a lifetime.

That's all for now, I've given you some pointers on how to polish your long boots, which are very useful this time of year. Of course, not only women's boots but also men's boots should be maintained in the same way.

I would also like to talk about a different way to polish long boots for horse riding.
